Two youths alleged to have stolen $14,820 from a businesswoman’s account when they withdrew money using her ATM card, have been released on $1000 bail.

Merewalesi Bukivere, 25, and Saimoni Tuwei, 23, are jointly charged with one count of theft.

It is alleged that between July 11 and July 24, 2020 they dishonestly appropriated the money with the intention to permanently deprive the complainant.

Sergeant Pratna Devi served the accused with first phase disclosures and did not object to bail provided they had sureties and strict bail conditions were imposed.

Their right a lawyer was read to them in court and they opted to be represented by the Legal Aid Commission.

Magistrate Joseph Daurewa released them on $1000 bail bond each and surety bond in the same amount.

They were instructed to report to the Samabula Police Station between 8am and 4pm and ordered not to change their residential address without the permission of the court.

They’ve also been warned not to offend while on bail and not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.

Their case has been adjourned to February 3 for mention.
