The Team Fiji contingent are confident of taking 60 athletes and officials to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.
This was confirmed by Team Fiji chef de mission Patrick Bower during a press conference at the Olympic House in Suva yesterday.
The Team Fiji men’s and women’s teams have qualified for the Olympics while swimming, athletics and judo athletes are yet to confirm their spots.
The Olympic Games will be from July 23 to August 8.
“In regards to Team Fiji going to the Olympics we are going by the call of the International Olympic Committee (IOC),” Bower said.
“All scheduled plans for competitions are in place and all venues have been confirmed.
“We are moving ahead confidently knowing that we will be having the Olympics and we will be there.”
Bower said they were working on their logistics on when they were flying out so it could be in time for the competition.”
Vaccination
“We are in contact with the team that is handling all the quarantine requirements.
“We have had constant meeting with them. They have been updating us and the IOC is making every effort to see that every athlete going to the Olympics as well as the officials are vaccinated before departure.
“In Japan they don’t want to keep us for long in quarantine it’s like a couple of days rather than the 14 days that we do in Fiji.
“It is 72 hours before leaving Fiji that we got to be monitored.
“Before getting into Japan we would have follow all the required procedures.”
