PM Confident About The New US President

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama is confident the newly sworn-in President of the United States of America Joe Biden and his Vice President Kamala Harris can bring the US back into the Paris Agreement.
In 2017, Former US President Donald Trump announced that the US would cease all participation in the Paris Agreement and negotiate re-entry on US terms.
The withdrawal took effect in November last year, one day after the 2020 US election.
“By putting the climate emergency at the core of their administration, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris have more than just a chance to bring America back into the Paris Agreement,” Mr Bainimarama said in a tweet on his personal account.
“They can save the planet as we know it.”
From the frontlines of climate change in Fiji, he said the commitment from the US could not have come soon enough.
Hours after he was sworn in, President Biden announced the US plans to re-enter the Paris climate accord.
