The Chinese community in Fiji conducted a Disaster Relief Photography Exhibition in Nadi on Friday, January 22.

Photos were gathered from the community’s disaster relief tour in Vanua Levu over the past week.

Speaking during the exhibition at the South Pacific Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the school director and dean, Doctor Zhihui Tu said they had set up a volunteer department in their Institute (Chinese Volunteer Alliance) to help during such crisis.

While in Vanua Levu, the Chinese community conducted field research on nine villages. “There were 76 damaged houses in three islands. We have 65 patients of various illnesses,” Doctor Zhihui said.

He added that through the investigation, they had sorted out and analysed the data to make an objective report on the disaster situation.  A basis for the reconstruction and donation work will be provided, he said.

Minister for Defence, National Security and Policing, Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Inia Seruiratu and Lieutenant-Colonel Semi Mocelutu were present at the exhibition.
