Fiji Heavy Rainfall And Flood Alert

Special weather bulletin number nineteen for heavy rain issued from the national weather forecasting centre, Nadi at 5.30am on Wednesday 27th January 2021.
A heavy rain alert remains in force for Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and Lau group.
Situation:
A trough of low pressure remains slow moving over the northern parts of the group. Meanwhile, a shallow low pressure remains to the southeast of Vanua Levu embedded along the trough.
Forecast
For Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands and the Lau group:
occasional rain and few thunderstorms. Isolated heavy falls expected.
Possible impacts:
– risk of flash flooding of low lying and flood prone areas during persistent localised heavy falls.
– risk of flooding of small rivers, creeks and roads.
– poor visibility on roads in areas of heavy rain for motorists.
– reduced visibility at sea.
