The Fijiana XVs squad took to the Sigatoka sand dunes yesterday.

This is part of the preparation process set by Fijiana XVs head coach Senirusi Seruvakula and the coaching staff to ensure that players are in their best form come the  Women’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.

The World Cup will be from September 18 to October 16.

The Fijiana XVs are in Pool C where they face top seeds England, France and South Africa.

This will be the first World Cup for the Fijiana XVs and Seruvakula is wasting no time as he looks into all avenues of preparations in getting his players to international standard.

“We are still bringing those players who were named in the extended squad of 71 last year, and after this camp I will sit with the coaching team. We’ll have a fair idea on our 35 local players before the overseas players arrive in March,” Seruvakula told FRU Media.

A few players from Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom have expressed their interest to join the training squad and they’ve been given the green light to join camp in March.

“They playing Super Rugby in Australia and a few in New Zealand. One of them is also from Saracens in England,” said Seruvakula.

“They all have shown interest to come and play for Fiji, three Brumbies players, two from Reds and a few from New Zealand, these all are confirmed players flying in March to join the extended team.

“The door is always open and if there is anyone who shines in the provincial competition this year we will definitely bring them into the extended squad.”
