Apisai Lomani, 25, aims to make a mark in the Super 7s Series.

Switching from rugby league, Lomani has no regrets joining the rival code.

The Naburenivalu, Namena, Tailevu native and former Ratu Kadavulevu School student would like to continue playing 7s and represent Fiji in future.

He was a member of the LAR Barbarian Brothers in the first leg of the Super 7s Series at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.

The Brothers lost to Police Blue in the Cup semifinal 5-14.

He played alongside national squad members like Seremaia ‘Jerry’ Tuwai, Pio Tuwai, Taniela Sadrugu, Jiuta Wainiqolo, Kitione Salawa Jnr and Sireli Maqala.

The playmaker/ halfback played for the Newtown in the Nasinu Rugby Union club competitions.

“I started off playing rugby league with Nadera Panthers,” he said.

“I switched to 7s as it is much faster with only seven players unlike in league where you are involved in too many contacts.

“But you need to be fit to play 7s and I want to stay in the sport and hopefully represent Fiji in future.

“ The game itself is fast nowdays so i have to be fit to match the pace of the game here and internationally.”

“I was a young boy when I heard about Jerry and Pio Tuwai and to team up with them is such a great experience. I have really learnt a lot,” Lomani added.

He also played 7s for the Nausori club which won the Burebasaga 7s in the past. Their team then included former reps like Glen Cakautini and Setareki Bituniyata.

“Anyone can be a national rep, only if you are fit. But the selection is God’s. If I’m chosen, then I am prepared.”
