Rizwan Buksh grew up fascinated with two things – technology, and cars.

“It’s a hobby that I’ve pursued through the years,” he said.

He says he is Vodafone Fiji’s only device specialist; a job that has been his since he started work in 2014.

Mr Buksh took part in the Xplicit Car Club fund drive to raise money for victims of TC Yasa on Saturday, January 16, at Fiji Sports Council car park at Laucala Bay, in Suva.

Mr Buksh was a contender for the best family car category, the best lights category and the best SUV category.

“I won first prize for best lights and best SUV,” he said.

“We had a best group entry win as well.

“The event was on my birthday so it was a good birthday present for me.”

Please tell us more about your post as device specialist, seeing as you are the only person with such qualification across Vodafone Fiji?
It is about ensuring that the hardware and software of devices are capable of allowing a customer to use all our mobile services and commonly used over the top (OTT) applications such as Viber.

Why is the role important?
The role is important because it contributes to the business decision making process in supplying quality devices to Vodafone customers.

How does one go about attaining the same skill sets?
· You need to be in the field of Information System.

·Have an interest in all smart gadgets.

·Stay up to date with the latest technological trends, via articles and news and tutorial and device review videos.

·Receive product details and training from suppliers.

Describe an average day as a device specialist.
·Use new devices and test their functionalities against the test case criteria.

·Use latest devices, such as Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra, before its official release in the Fiji market.

What is the significance of an APN?
APN stands for Access Point Name.

It is a gateway which allows a mobile device to make a data connection between the carrier’s mobile network and public internet.

I was inspired by action films involving racing and customised cars, in particular the Fast and Furious franchise and The Transporter.

I have an interest in keeping my vehicle up to date with all latest and compatible gadgets to improve and increase performance and also keeping the vehicle neat.

I also have to ensure that while modifying the vehicle is street legal and safe.

o I am either working on my ride or my friends. We are always looking for ways to modify and optimise our vehicles.
