Raised in Yalalevu and Vatulaulau, Ba, Nandini Nancy Nair always followed her heart’s desire and that was to one day represent Fiji on the international stage in a beauty pageant.

The 34-year-old mother of one child who now resides in North Shore, New Zealand, with her family first took part in a beauty pageant during a school carnival at A.D Patel College in Ba.

That first appearance on the school stage confirmed her status of being in the pageantry where she participated in the Miss India New Zealand beauty pageant in 2006 and scooped the title of Miss Personality.

It was not until 2016 when the opportunity of taking part in the ‘Mrs Category’ pageant came to her and she grabbed it without thinking twice.

In the same year, Ms Nair won the title for Mrs India Fiji in New Zealand, and also claimed the First Runner Up title in the Mrs New Zealand beauty pageant.

“I always had a goal to grace an international stage,” she said.

This year, the Fiji-born Ba woman will again grace the international stage and represent her home country in the Mrs World 2021 beauty pageant in Sri Lanka.

This is the 25th Mrs World pageant. Mrs Sri Lanka World, Caroline Jurie, is currently holding the title for Mrs World 2020.

“I had to grab this opportunity and give it all the love I could as this has been a childhood dream,” said Ms Nair.

“For any girl who loves pageantry, to be considered as a possible candidate to represent your country on the world stage is a huge thing. My sole passion to be part of this pageant is to spread the message that it’s never too late.”

Her parents, Saras Nair and Chandran Nair have been supporting her achieve her dreams over the years which has lead to many of her success stories.

In putting Fiji’s name out there on the international stage, she has plans to someday have Fiji host a Mrs World beauty pageant.

“My goal is to get director ship for Fiji and possibly host a Mrs Fiji World pageant in the future. In saying that if I win the title for Mrs World, 2021, the next Mrs World 2022 pageant will be hosted in Fiji which will be a big boost for the economy,” she added.

Ms Nair is also “looking for Fijian designers to design an out of the world national outfit”.

“I believe in being humble and grounded,” she said. Mrs World 2021 will be held in Sri Lanka in either July or August.
