Xavier College Year 13 student, Seemran Prasad is content that her change of subjects in 2019 allowed her to continuously thrive in her education.

The 17-year-old of Taveqaveqa, Ba stands proud today of her achievement after scoring 390 out of 400 in the 2020 Fiji Year 12 Certificate Examination.

Seemran scored 93 in English, 100 in Technical Drawing, 99 in Chemistry and 98 in Mathematics.

When she was in Year 11, the enthusiasm in Seemran made her venture out into something new, which was for the first time having zero technical background. She dropped her Home Economics subject and took up Technical Drawing.

The now Year 13 student does not regret her decision because she has always been interested to explore new areas.

“When I took Technical Drawing (TD) for the first time, it was hard at first. I had demotivating peers saying that it is only a male-dominated field and I wouldn’t succeed,” she said.

“I had no technical background, but I have always been ambitious with the subjects I take so I wanted to try a new challenge.”

Seemran, who is also interested in music, is not new in attaining top awards in school.

“When I sat for my Fiji Eighth Year Examination (FEYE) I got the highest in Mathematics, I have medals from the Fiji Mathematics Competition (FMC) and for my Fiji Junior Certificate (FJC) I got the highest mark in the school,” she said.

Her constant achievement has been dedicated to her parents, Mukesh and Sarla Prasad, who are the directors of Glamour Arts & Printers located in Ba.

“I received great support from my parents and teachers. My mum was always there for me making sure that I was up early to study and also my father for giving me great life lessons on Sundays at the breakfast table,” she said.

Seemran now aims to scoop the school dux award this year.

She has future plans to pursue her studies and work in the field of aeronautical engineering.
