Lautoka Andhra Sangam College toppers Peni Tuvutuvunibuka and Matilda Simmons have made history by breaking the Year 12 and Year 13 external examinations school record.

Peni scored 377 out of 400 in Year 12 and he dedicated his achievement to his family in Macuata who were impacted by Tropical Cyclone Yasa and Tropical Cyclone Ana.

“My family is my everything and I feel blessed to make them smile with a short gift of achievement,” Peni said.

He said he stayed with his grandfather and aunt who had helped and supported him in his school work.

“I couldn’t have done it without them,” he said.

“Hats off to my grandfather who raised me since I was a young boy.”

He said he wanted to continue his education in the same school and break the Year 13 record.

Peni’s subject marks were: 

• English 86 
• Maths 100
• Physics 94 
• Technical Drawing 97

Year 13 topper

Year 13 school topper Matilda said: “I am proud to break the Year 13 record.

“I am happy to receive a lot of support from my teachers and principal, Aruna Singh.”

She wants to become a pharmacist. She has been selected to study at the Fiji National University’s College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.

“I hope to succeed to good grades,” Matilda said.

She is passionate about helping the sick by giving them the right advice and prescription.

She scored 380 out of 400.

Matilda’s subject marks were:

• Maths 98
• Physics 93
• Chemistry 97
