The teenager who left Cikobia for Vunakodi Village in Cakaudrove on January 28, but has been missing since, passed his Year 12 Examination.

Seruvi Walu, 18, and Aisea Rokodau were travelling back by fiberglass boat to their village in unfavourable weather conditions.

A search and rescue team for the pair was deployed, but stopped on January 29 because of the impending weather conditions.

It continued again on Thursday.

Seruvi’s father, Marika Turua, is hopeful that he will be able to celebrate his son’s Year 12 Certificate Examination pass.

He scored 288 out of 400. He attended Navatu Secondary School.

A day before the pair went missing, Mr Turua called Seruvi to relay the good news.

“Seruvi was very happy when I called him in Cikobia to tell him,” Mr Turua said.

“I was telling him that when he got back we would celebrate his achievement as a family.

“He wanted to go to Suva to pursue foundation studies at the University of the South Pacific, but I had asked him to complete Year 13 in the village for another year.

“He wanted to visit Cikobia so I had agreed that he would go with another village elder.

“They were stuck on the island because of bad weather and had returned last Wednesday morning.”

Mr Turuva, who is a church minister at Vunikodi Village, said he had encouraged his family to remain steadfast in prayer as Police officers carried out their search efforts.

“Only God’s plan will prevail. If he is found we will be thankful and if he is not found we will continue to praise God for his plans,” he said.
