Probe Into Alleged Dirty Cops

Six Police officers were investigated for allegedly planting drugs, specifically, methamphetamine, in a man’s vehicle.
It is believed that the man was parked outside his girlfriend’s workplace as she was finishing from work in April last year. During this time, the nationwide curfew started at 10pm.
It was after 9pm when a Police vehicle pulled up next to the man asking him what the man was doing. Even after the man explained what he was doing, the man and his girlfriend were taken to Totogo Police Station.
It is alleged that the man’s vehicle was searched by Police before he was taken to the Police Station. Nothing was found.
It is alleged that while the man and his girlfriend were at the Police Station, another team of Police officers arrived to where the car was parked.
It is alleged that Police officers then allegedly planted a bag containing methamphetamines under the seat of the car.
It is believed the drugs were gathered by the team from an unsanctioned raid done at a suspect’s place known for selling narcotics.
Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed the investigation.
She said the investigation file had returned from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and was with the Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
Acting Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu said all reports lodged against Police officers of their alleged involvement in drug related activities will be investigated by CID.
“This is testament to how we will not take allegations of officers being involved in the illicit trade lightly, as we cannot be fighting this war publicly and calling on public support if some of our own are involved,” he said.
