Authorities Look Into Pot Holes Issue

Housing Authority of Fiji and Fiji Roads Authority are working together to improve the road conditions in the Tacirua East subdivision.
The Stage Two subdivision project is part of the four-year 170-acre housing development project by Housing Authority.
Housing Authority chief executive officer Robert Sen said residents’ concerns were acknowledged and HA were doing their best to solve these problems.
“Not all the roads in Tacirua East belong to Housing Authority, FRA is also in charge of some of these roads and we are working together to fixing the roads,” Mr Sen said.
“A team will look into assessing the issues raised as soon as possible.”
Residents’ testimonies
Resident, Avinesh Chand has taken matters into his own hands by placing broken cement blocks into the pot holes in front of his home.
“It is getting really worse,” he said of the road conditions.
“I have been living here for the past five years and the condition of the roads is not improving.
“Drainage is a problem because the driveways done by Housing Authority is low.
“When there is heavy rain, it gets blocked and it overflows on to the road.
“The force of the water pulls out the tar seal creating more road problems.”
Mr Chand said residents had been calling out to the relevant authorities to look into the issue.
“It is damaging the vehicles too,”he added.
Another resident, Mohammed Iqbal said: “During the heavy rain, the gravel gets washed out again.
“All efforts of covering just goes to waste.”
