Mai TV, Wearing Fiji Expand Digital Presence, MOU

Mai TV hopes to expand Fijian fashion artist presence digitally in the hopes to also add an entertaining element to their channel.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Mai TV and Wearing Fiji, a fashion project, yesterday.
Mai TV presenter Andhy Blake said many people may know about fashion and its shows but rarely about the work behind it.
He said: “One of the main things we hope to achieve is to bring more recognition to the student designers that are showing on our platform.
In this way they will have more digital reach.
We have a huge digital platform that we hope will give them a stronger presence and recognition.
“Mai TV already had a following. What I brought to Mai TV is a different element.”
“It has always been streamlined as more documentary and a journalistic presence. So, I brought in a little bit of element and entertainment.”
He said it took a lot of convincing to get Wearing Fiji onboard as an exclusive television partner and he was thankful that they considered them.
The fashion project premiered last year and because of the positive response they decided to continue in the hope to make it bigger.
Samson Lee, fashion designer and event organiser, confirmed they received 60 interested student applicants and initially had planned to only take seven finalists.
However, because of the huge response they have committed to take on 14 student applicants.
These students will be closely mentored by seven renowned local fashion designers over the next three months.
The fashion show will be held at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva on May 1.
There will be two shows, the first will feature the 14 student designers following the seven mentors and their designs.
Mai TV will also be screening ‘Journey to the Catwalk’ that will be short episodes as a lead up to the grand show.
The seven mentors are:
– Andrew Powell
– Hupfled Hoerder
– Atelaite Daunibau
– Robert Verebasaga
– Temesia Tuicaumia
– Natalia Larsen
– Samson Lee
Ticket sales are yet to be confirmed.
