The halls of Parliament were abuzz with discussions that there is a move by the National Federation Party together with the Social Democratic Liberal Party to move a vote of no confidence motion against the Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau.

This is in response to the Speaker’s ruling against an urgent question posed by NFP Leader Biman Prasad about Professor Pal Ahluwalia’s deportation and Lenora Qereqeretabua’s question about the Savusavu Hospital.

Leader of Opposition Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu had also raised an adjournment motion for Parliament to condemn the deportation and for Government to apologise to USP, its member countries and students.

Last night, Opposition Whip Lynda Tabuya said there was no discussion about a vote of no confidence.

She also denied rumours that the Opposition was considering taking that move.

Calls made to Mr Prasad were unsuccessful.
