84 MGM Students Score 300 Plus In Year 12 Exams

A total of 84 students from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) High School in Suva scored more than 300 out of 400 in their Year 12 Certificate Examination last year.
MGM High School principal Sanjay Raman said this represented 69 per cent of the students. There were 121 students who sat for the external examinations.
Mr Raman said: “The school has never achieved close to 100 students scoring 300 plus in Year 12.
“In previous years, around 60 students had only crossed 300 plus.”
Mr Raman said he was grateful to all the teachers and students who worked hard to achieve great results.
“I hope the Year 12 students, who are in Year 13 now, will also set a benchmark with excellent marks.”
Highest scorer, Arisha Lal, who recounted her marks said one mark made a difference to her life goals.
“I feared the competition level in my class where two of us had scored 392,” she said
“After my mark increased, I was relieved.”
She said her parents were her biggest inspiration and this achievement would not have been possible without their support.
“I am passionate about becoming a doctor, but since there is no scholarship offered for Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) my second option is to become a pharmacist or a dentist,” Arisha said.
The Science student achieved:
94 per cent in English
100 per cent in Maths
100 per cent in Biology
99 per cent in Physics
Raised by single parent Benjamin Jacob, scored 323/400 said despite the difficulties he had faced in Year 12, he conquered.
“It was hard for my mother to raise me and support me financially,” he said.
“But I thank my school for understanding my situation and providing me school lunch and school stationery for me to do well in studies.”
Farmer’s son, Veresa Naleka, said scoring 307/400 was something big for him.
“The mark I achieved is dedicated to my mother and father who are farmers in Sigatoka Valley Road,” he said.

Year 13 topper
For Henali Patel, she also recounted her marks for the Year 13 Certificate Examination last year.
She scored 388/400 and achieved:
94 per cent in English
99 per cent in Maths
99 per cent in Physics
96 per cent in Chemistry
Henali said: “I put in so much hard work and dedication to my studies.
“I aimed for such marks and I am grateful that I was able to achieve it.”
She wants to study haematology also at FNU.
