Silktails To Play For A Better Future

The 2021 New South Wales Cup’s Ron Massey Cup campaign is a job to tackle.
These were comments of Kaiviti Silktails head coach Wes Naqaima before the team departed Nadi International Airport yesterday.
The Silktails are based in Sydney, Australia, for the entire season, playing all their home fixtures at the Mascot Oval.
Naqaima told the team that their mission was to win the competition.
“We are there to do a job,” the former Fijian Bati captain said.
“When the Ron Massey Cup is complete, five or six of these boys may be picking up contracts with National Rugby League (NRL) clubs.”
Naiqama said despite the cyclones, the preparation was good.
“We have been building towards it nicely. “There was a bit of interruption when we had the cyclones but I have been really happy with the players coming together.
“We had a lot of work done in the gym and on the field.”
Ravoravo Rabbitohs rep Samu Daveta said his aim of being a Silktail was to get an overseas contract and help support his family.
“Also, I’m aiming to make the Fijian Bati this year,” he said.
The 23-year-old Sabeto native hopes to follow in the footsteps of his favourite Fijian Bati hooker, Apisai Koroisau.
Kaiviti Silktails chariman Petero Civoniceva said, they could not have done this without the support from the New South Wales Government, the PacificAus Sports programme and the Australian High Commission.
Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, John Feakes said: “As the first-ever Fijian team to compete in the Ron Massey Cup, the Kaiviti Silktails have already made history for rugby league in Fiji.
