FRA To Repair School’s Access Culvert (Bridge)

While the Fiji Roads Authority has made it clear that the access culvert (bridge) does not belong to the authority, they will still repair it this weekend.
The Bulavou District School access culvert was damaged during Cyclone Ana. Afterwards, residents of Tabia have created a temporary crossing.
Tabia advisory councillor Brijesh Chand said the authority had immediately responded to their request.
Mr Chand said the bridge was 400 metres away from the school.
Therefore a temporary bridge had been constructed in order for the teachers and school students to cross over.
He said the bridge was first built by the school management for easier excess to students which cost around $8000.
“Bulavou District School is a boarding school which is located in Tabia, with a school roll of 150 students,” he said
Mr Chand said many residents and teachers were still suffering because they could not use their own transport and were walking more than 400 metres to catch a bus.
“The temporary bridge is made from tree trunks tied up with rope. This cannot be used by vehicles, only for foot crossing,” Mr Chand said.
“This is risky, but for the time being people need to adjust with it. I am thankful that FRA is ready to repair the bridge at the weekend.”
