2021 Tests To Be Decided In March

The confirmation of all rugby international Test matches for this year will be announced in March.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday Fiji Rugby Union chief executive officer John O’Connor said the World Rugby Professional Games Committee will meet in March to look at the situation we are in especially with the threats of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The committee will make their recommendations to the World Rugby Council,” O’Connor said.

“That is for the June to August Test matches and the also Tests at the end of the year.”

The Vern Cotter-coached Flying Fijians have been lined-up to play the All Blacks on August 7 at Okara Park in Whangarei, New Zealand.

Meanwhile, the FRU is expected to make big announcements early next week concerning the Super Sevens Series. The FRU had been talking with a major company that is most likely to sponsor the four-tournament Series.

O’Connor said, they were confident of securing the deal but negotiations were still taking place.

“We hope to make it official early next week,” he added.

O’Connor also pointed out that they would announce the 16th team to play in this weekend’s second leg of the Super Sevens Series at Prince Charles Park in Nadi.

This was after Yamacia was disqualified after they failed to turn up for one of their playoff matches during the first leg at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.

‘We’re looking at a couple of teams but will make a decision and make the announcement early next week as well,” O’Connor said.

The Gareth Baber- national sevens training squad will report to camp today.

O’Connor said the members of training squad were going to train together for the next three days before returning to play for their respective clubs in the second leg of the two-day series, which kicks-off on Friday.

Police Blue are leading the Series followed closely by Raiwasa Taveuni, Tabadamu, Army and Ratu Filise.
