Road Works At Night To Repair Damage Caused By Cyclone

The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is working at night on those cluster pothole sections on Labasa Main St starting from Delailabasa area towards Labasa Town and Fiji Sugar Corporation on Wainikoro Road.
The authority said most of these sections were under water due to flooding from Cyclone Ana. Their main target was to keep the main route safely passable to all, but recent rain in Labasa has made it a challenge.
“Also these sections will be part of upcoming reseal programme together with ongoing Seal Roads Maintenance once the weather clears up,” the authority said.
Taxi drivers have stressed the need for repairs on these roads. Taxi driver Amitesh Prasad said the roads became worse after Cyclone Ana.
“In every end you will get too see potholes,” he said.
“Not only in main town, but if you go to Nakama, Vunimoli, Waiqele, Batinikama and Wainikoro the roads are in a bad condition.”
Another taxi driver, Rakesh Prasad, said it has been difficult for them to take longer routes.
“There are many roads which have been damaged in recent flooding,” he said.
“Every end you will get to see the potholes and it’s very sad to see nothing has been done so far.”
Taxi driver Sukha Prasad said schools were starting tomorrow and it would be very hard for the children get to school on time.
