A 49-year-old farmer and SODELPA Nasinu Constituency vice-president Isikeli Komaisavi was remanded overnight for allegedly posting on social media calling for a senior Government Minister to be shot.

Komaisavai is charged with one count of causing harm by posting electronic communication.

He appeared before Magistrate Joseph Daurewa yesterday escorted by the Criminal Investigations Department officers.

It is alleged that on February 10, 2021, at Suva, Komaisavai commented on Facebook, calling for the Fijian Attorney-General to be killed, adding that the Government Minister will be killed.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Jitendra Singh served the accused with full phase disclosures.

He told the court that he did not object to Komaisavai’s bail, however, sought special orders from the court for the accused to refrain from posting anything on social media.

Magistrate Daurewa questioned the accused whether he was in the position to pay a cash bail of $500. However, Komaisavai told the court that he was not in the position to do so and sought assistance from his surety.

Komaisavai’s surety sought time to arrange $500.

Magistrate Daurewa ordered Komaisavai to deactivate his Facebook account and remain remanded in custody at the Totogo Police Station.

The matter will be called today for bail.
