Post Fiji Limited have launched additional fleets through the Quality of Service Fund (QSF) totalling to FJ$276,130 yesterday.

The Quality of Service Fund has been made available by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) as an assistance to its member organisations, such as Post Fiji.

With the available grant, the company’s Postal Service Department has added one three-ton truck, three panel vans and six motorcycles to its fleet.

Post Fiji Limited chairman, Lawrence Tikaram highlighted the funding to purchase new vehicles was very timely.

The existing fleet had gotten old and were unreliable because of frequent breakdowns and high maintenance costs.

He also added Post Fiji expected improvements in delivery standards and quality customer service through the grant available by UPU, especially with the COVID-19 restrictions.

Mr Tikaram said: “These vehicles have been timely and in support of the struggles the nation faces with abiding by the COVID-19 restrictions in delivery of parcels and ensuring customers of Post Fiji are equally receptive to receiving their delivery of postal items in an efficient and COVID-19 compliant manner.”

Mr Tikaram said the new vehicles would increase the speed of delivery and pick up of postal items to and from central business district (CBD) Suva, Nausori, Naitasiri and Tailevu areas.

“With the motor bikes we have been able to implement Postman mail delivery and this is yet another cost effective and efficient delivery system,” he said.

Mr Tikaram has thanked the Universal Postal Union for continuing to support their initiatives.

“We look forward to the support as the economic environment becomes more challenging.”

Universal Postal Union is a specialised agency of the United Nations that coordinate postal policies among organisations in member nations such as Post Fiji Limited.
