Fiji PM Urges USP To Clean Up
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has urged the University of the South Pacific Council to “clean up” the tertiary institution.

He has also urged National Federation Party leader Biman Prasad to stop involving USP students.

Mr Bainimarama’s comments on Mr Prasad are the result of a continuing unrest after the deportation of former USP vice-chancellor Pal Ahluwalia and his wife Sandra Price. It also includes the appointment of Mr Prasad’s wife, Rajni Chand, to a USP director position; a post which is normally internationally advertised.

“Stop involving the students. This issue has nothing to do with them, this issue is to do with Biman and his cronies at USP,” the Prime Minister said.

“Let’s see his GDP in this debate

“Everyone by now knows the difference between an academic and an intellectual. You don’t need to know or pretend to know these things. What does he do with his PhD in Economics? He runs out of Parliament every time with it.

“It’s funny he talks about Messiah. Ahluwali’s wife Sandy Price had posted on the social media that Ahluwalia, like Christ will rise again.”

Mr Bainimarama has also hit back against claims that his criticism of Ms Chand was made out of misogyny.

“And how did this issue become one of misogyny? Everyone in Fiji knows my stance on the protection of women. And, Fiji knows the lack of support our women got from him and his members when NFP found it hard to condemn (SODELPA MP Mosese) Bulitavu.”

The lawyer for the Prasads, Munro Leys partner Richard Naidu, has sent an email warning against publishing what he calls defamatory comments by the PM.
