Ba Provincial Freebird Institute head boy, Serevi Loco, said his appointment is a first for his family.

The soft-spoken lad from Drauniivi, Ra, heads the student council with head girl Maria Mamala Siata of Wailailai, Ovalau, Levuka.

“I’m really about today where I was chosen to be the head boy but I did not think I would be a head boy at this school because I did form three and four in Central College and form five till form seven in Ba Pro,” he said.

“This is the first time for someone in my family to be a head boy.”

For Maria, she said she hoped to address the number of school dropouts and bullying cases at the school.

Prefects’ induction chief guest, Asian Development Bank’s Senior Economist Lai Tora said: “Leadership isn’t a position or something that you’re born with, it’s an action that you exercise so leadership isn’t only in school it’s also at home and you’ve probably seen good examples of leadership in all facets of your life whether it be at home or church.
