Rabobo Breaks Cycle At Ratu Filise
Poniani Rabobo.

Poniani Rabobo breaks tradition at Namatakula based Ratu Filise Sevens Rugby club.

The club, Ratu Filise has been a synonyms name when it comes to the breeding ground of former sporting legends such as Noa Nadruku, and Lote Tuqiri to name a few.

Given the opportunity to play for Ratu Filise at the Super Seven Series at Prince Charles Park in Nadi was the greatest blessing for Rabobo.

The 23-year-old originally from Nasau Village in Bua, Vanua Levu scored two tries on day one.

He is the only player on the side who is from other provinces who was selected to be part of the team.

This is his seventh year of playing rugby since he left his village to follow his dream.

“I have left my village just to follow my dream of playing rugby. I came and stayed at my uncle’s place at Votua, Baravi. I was playing for the Votua RC when the coach of Ratu Filise approached me to play for the team.”

“I thank God for the opportunity that was given to me. I believe this was God’s plan in following my dream.

He said being given the opportunity to be the first from outsiders to be selected to the team was a blessing.

“All the team members were all from the province of Nadroga. I believe that I’m the first player to be chosen out of the province and it is a blessing from me.

He said his aim was to wear a white jersey someday.

“I had only one aim and that is to wear white Jersey. The reason for wearing white Jersey is to show the people of Fiji that this is the talent that God has given.”

“I believe this talent and passion of playing rugby will not only be limited here but will take around the world to showcase this God-given talents. I will not take things lightly and will work on what I want to achieve.”
