The Pacific Tourism Organisation (SPTO) has launched SPTO Jobslink.

The initiative aims to bridge a gap between unemployed tourism workers and employers throughout the Pacific region.

This was made possible through their partnership with New Zealand Foreign Affairs and Trade (NZMFAT) that formalised in October last year.

SPTO chief executive officer Christopher Cocker highlighted the importance of this initiative given the current circumstances.

“The SPTO Jobslink website will connect job seekers, formerly employed by the tourism sector, with new opportunities.

“It is a special occasion because it is the first time NZMFAT has committed to regional tourism funding.

The funding has always been on a bilateral basis in this case. We are privileged to be partnering with them.”

New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji Jonathan Curr said this link will help stabilise Pacific Tourism during this pandemic.

“When we think about this pandemic we are not only thinking about its impact on the industry and the economy. We are thinking of the impact it is having on our people as individuals, their families and livelihoods.

“This will help connect tourism workers with job opportunities at national and regional levels.

“As COVID-19’s impact on our uncertain future, we need new thinking and new approaches.

SPTO is leading us and we are very pleased to be a part of this.”

The initiative FJ$22,000 is the first that connects Pacific tourism workers in the Pacific region.
