Vatuwaqa Daylight Robbery Claim: Five Escape By Swimming Across River, Two Caught

A family operating a shop at the junction of Nacara Street and Fletcher Road in Vatuwaqa are living in fear after seven men allegedly robbed the property in broad daylight.
It was around 1pm yesterday when the alleged incident occurred.
The swift action by Police resulted in the apprehension of two of the seven men at Wailea Settlement in Vatuwaqa shortly after.
This was confirmed by Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro.
She said investigators were still compiling information.
Faizal Shah, 21, his father Jalal Shah and mother Sandhya Narayan were at home.
Faizal, who was serving customers in the shop, said that the seven men stood at the verandah for about an hour which made him grow suspicious.
“One of them came in and asked if he could buy a gas cylinder,” Faizal said.
“I told him we had none left even though we had gas.
“None of them wore face masks or anything to cover their faces.
“I sensed that they were either drunk or high.
“After a while all seven of them came into the shop and asked if they could buy one pack Joske and one pack Woodstock.
“As soon as I went to open the fridge, one of them threw a punch at me. They were already inside the shop.”
He claimed he was assaulted several times while another man rummaged through the shop to gather what he could take with him.
He said the men ran away with five packs of Woodstock, one mobile phone, $2500 cash and $3900 worth of recharge cards.
He said they fled through the mangroves.
