Port Denarau Marina (PDM) is rubbing shoulders with two Australian-based counterparts as finalists in a global superyacht business awards.

The listed company was named as a contender for the Best Superyacht Marina in the Australasia category, in the ACREW Superyacht Business Awards 2020.

The award recognises the marina for providing the best standard of services and facilities to superyacht captain and crew, and for assisting superyacht guests.

PDM told SunBiz the ACREW Superyacht Business Award was a first for ACREW and the marina.

Marina chief executive officer, Cynthia Rasch, said PDM was voted in by crew and captains to nominate the best companies in various categories.

“This recognition is attributed to the consistently high standard of work and dedication by our team, tenants and contractors based at Port Denarau Marina,” she said yesterday.

“Our goal at Port Denarau Marina is the satisfaction of owners and captains.”

“For over a decade, we have been serving the superyacht industry with that sole focus in mind, as well as promoting Fiji as the ideal destination for international superyachts.”

Ms Rasch said: “It has been indeed a challenging year for the marina and our tenants with border closures due to COVID-19 and cyclones.

“But we strive to manage our finances prudently while not compromising on our service standards.”

The marina continues to work on marketing Fiji and its Blue Lane initiatives to prepare for the approaching yachting season, she said.

ACREW Yachting is based out of Palma De Mallorca, Spain, but has since COVID moved to the United Kingdom.

“They undertake and host superyacht crew development programmes to promote excellence onboard through workshops, online learning, partner training and events,” Ms Rasch said.

ACREW is owned by Abigail McGrath and Onno Ebbens, and aims to deliver high–standard worldwide events, which introduce professional development opportunities to superyacht captains and crew.

ACREW has over 14,000 crew members, including over 2500 captains.

PDM said the award reinforced the marina’s position as a world class facility that was an integral player in the international superyacht scene.

The marina was last month re-accredited under the International Clean Marina Level 3 and Fish Friendly programme, by the Marina Industries Association.
