Reverend On Sexual Allegations

A reverend of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma has been relieved of his duties while pending police investigations on sexual assault allegations.

President of the Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma, Reverend Ili Vunisuwai said the reverend was not suspended.

“Until we have concrete evidence from Police and the Divisional Superintendent, a decision will be made,” he said.

Church Secretary for Communications, Reverend Wilfred Regunamada said the church constitution did not condone such behaviour and suspension would mean that the suspect would be stripped of his duties and ministerial title for life.

“All his church duties are on a standstill until there is evidence to prove whether he is guilty or not.”

It is understood that the reverend is based in the maritime islands.
