Tourism Fiji Hands Over Blue Lane Approved Burgee Flags

Tourism Fiji handed over the approved burgee flags for 2021 to the COVID-19 Risk Mitigation Taskforce during the Tourism Talanoa session held at Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa on Denarau yesterday.
Launched last year by the Fijian Government, the Blue Lanes Initiative was designed to allow yachts and pleasure craft to safely explore Fiji.
Under the initiative, Tourism Fiji also introduced “Blue Lane Approved” burgee flags.
Tourism Fiji acting chief executive officer Robert Thompson said the flags act as a confirmation that the vessel has completed the protocols set out by the Fijian Government.
He added it is a reassurance that all yachts flying these flags have completed their quarantine, mandatory protocols and do not pose any COVID- related threat to the local community.
“The flags will also be numbered, and unique to the vessels.
“The burgee flags will act as a souvenir for choosing to sail in Fiji during COVID-19 times, whereby most countries do not allow international travel.”
The burgee flag colours will be different each year to show the unique personality and vibrancy of Fiji and its culture.
The colours compliment the nature and artifacts that play an important role for Fijians.
He added under this new initiative, Port Denarau Marina is currently the only port of entry into Fiji.
Mr Thompson added if this pilot project is successful, extending Blue Lanes to other Fijian ports and marinas would be considered.
