Special weather bulletin number nineteen for damaging heavy swell issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 09.00am on Tuesday 9th march, 2021.
Damaging Heavy Swell Warning
A damaging heavy swell warning remains in force for the coastal areas of southwest Viti Levu (coastal areas from Natadola through Coral Coast to Pacific Harbour),
Southern coastal areas of Mamanuca group, Beqa, Kadavu, Vatulele, Moala group and Southern Lau group.
A damaging heavy swell warning remains in force for open waters of southwest Viti Levu waters, Mamanuca waters, southern Koro sea, Kadavu passage and southern Lau waters.
Situation : a high pressure system to the far southwest of Fiji continues to generate and direct moderate to heavy southwesterly swells over the southern waters and coastal areas of the country.
Damaging heavy swells abating to moderate southerly swells from later today.
Forecast:
Over coastal areas of southwest Viti Levu (coastal areas from Natadola through coral coast to pacific Harbour), southern coastal areas of Mamanuca group,
Beqa, Kadavu and Vatulele, Moala group and the southern Lau group :
Expect sea flooding especially during high tides.
Over open waters of southwest Viti Levu waters, Mamanuca waters, southern Koro sea, Kadavu passage and southern Lau waters.
Expect damaging heavy swells with heights upto 4.0m.

Tuesday 09th : 3.5m to 4.0m
Wednesday 10th : 2.0m to 2.5m
High tides:
Tuesday 9th : 03.27am – 1.68m / 03.31pm – 1.89m
Wednesday 10th : 04.25am – 1.72m / 04.27pm – 1.91m
Possible impacts
– coastal inundation of debris along Vatukarasa, Queens highway.
– hazardous breaking waves
– dangerous rip current
– heavy swells, possibility of small boat capsizing.
