The Opposition Member of Parliament, Lenora Qereqeretabua, has encouraged women to speak up about issues that concern them.

Ms Qereqeretabua was speaking during the International Women’s Day celebration held at the Levuka Town Council yesterday.

The event in Levuka will be observed over two days.

“The topics will include the role of women in decision-making, the effects of drugs and alcohol, domestic violence against women and children and depression,” she said.

“I believe that the two days will be beneficial for all of us present.”

She said women played an equally important role in their communities.

“We shall have a thorough discussion on ways where we can improve women empowerment,” Ms Qereqeretabua said.

“I want to encourage everyone from different walks of life that God placed us here today for a purpose.”
