Methodist Church Investigate Claims On Alleged Abuse At Dilkusha Home

We will never at any time condone any act that will harm the children says the Methodist Church of Fiji administrator of Deaconesses Order, Tamalesi Makutu.
Speaking on the alleged claims of abuse at Dilkusha Home, Deaconess Makutu said the deaconess in question was “someone I know that would never do something like that”.
“She is a deep thinker, speaks her mind when the need arises, firm in making her decision and most importantly she is someone full of compassion,” she said.
“However, if someone is found doing such things they will be terminated.
“A deaconess is someone who treats everyone with love.
“Loving a child does not mean we cannot discipline them, but it needs to be the right form of discipline and that is to call and talk to the child.”
Deaconess Makutu said protecting a child in their care was paramount.
“Our calling is to serve with the love of Jesus Christ, but that doesn’t mean we cannot discipline them,” Deaconess Makutu said.
“There are ways that children can be disciplined without corporal punishment.
“I always encourage the deaconess students to read child protection policy and to know the child protection policy because I do not want them to later be caught up in anything.
“These are strong allegations and I believe that it is investigated, and we will wait for the report.”
The Director of Social Welfare Division Rupeni Fatiaki is waiting for a response from the Methodist Church of Fiji and Rotuma.
The Church will respond after it complete its investigation.
