Sacred Heart Bank On Elite Athletes

Sacred Heart College is banking on its elite athletes for the Zone and Coca-Cola Games.
About 20 students are part of their elite group who started their preparation during the school holidays.
Principal Praveena Chand said they hope to increase their number of athletes to the Coca-Cola Games in April.
“Mainly we try to encourage students to take part in the inter-house competition so that they have maximum exposure. That is why we brought them to the stadium, to do a bit of training,” she said.
“We encourage this at least they are exposed to the different events so that they can take back the experience to the classroom.
“We’ve about 100 students participating in the zone, from there we have about 40 students who will qualify for Cokes.
“We usually end up with about 10 going to finals. With the enthusiasm of our Year 9s, we are expecting the number to increase.
“Usually the elite group comes down to the stadium, that’s the advantage because we are so near to the stadium so basically our backyard.”
About 20 athletes in the elite squad, who have been training off season and in other events around Suva.
“There is a small but strong group of parents who have been supporting them,”Chand added.
