Natabua High School head boy Avinash Chand says leading more than a thousand students will be no easy task.

A hundred and fifty-one school prefects were inducted on March 5.

“I along with my fellow members of the student council will work collaboratively to ensure that discipline and the standards of our prestigious institution are always maintained,” he said.

“I would like to focus on maintaining discipline at the school since Natabua is known for its culture and discipline. And I’d also like to work with my fellow student council members to uphold the standard left by our predecessors.”

He also thanked his mother, a single parent, for motivating him.

“Now I would like to acknowledge the special person in my life, who has been there in every little and big steps that I have taken and to whom my entire life is dedicated. She serves to be my biggest inspiration and whom I am honoured and proud to call as my best friend and my mother,” he said.

Head girl Ruci Ranitu was humbled by her appointment.

“I’m honoured to have been chosen amongst all equally capable students, I’m just humbled to be chosen as the head girl of Natabua High School,“ she said.

The chief guest and Permanent Secretary for Education, Heritage and Arts, Anjeela Jokhan, said mentoring and guiding emerging leaders was an important task for parents and guardians

“It is all our responsibility to create leaders because by creating good leaders, we contribute to society,” she said.

“When you are given powers as prefects, the powers are not to abuse and anyone in any position must first and foremost have humility because power is given to you to serve.”

The deputy head prefects are Grace Wilson, Natalina Naivalu, Aiyush Ram and Samuela Yalayala. Sunia Sigawale was inducted as hostel head boy and his deputies are Savenaca Senikau and Malakai Kalidredre.
