Market vendors at Ratu Dovi Road near the RB Patel Centrepoint supermarket should start planning on their relocation.

Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar had confirmed that in due time these vendors would be removed.

Ms Kumar said the stall and kiosks along this place were illegally constructed and were causing more issues.

The stalls are built on top of drainage and waterways. The kiosks operate as kava bars at night and people are often seen using the drain as urinals.

Ms Kumar also confirmed that Makoi and Laqere Markets would be extended to provide space for these vendors.

Meanwhile, she also confirmed that the survey of the land earmarked for the new Nakasi market was completed.

A tender for architects has been advertised by the Nausori Town Council.

She added that now a scheme plan was being made.

“The scheme plan will be given to the Town and Country Planning, then it will go to the Lands Department, they will then provide the land to the council,” she confirmed

The land was acquired from the Fiji Corrections Services.

Ms Kumar said the construction of the market was very important because it would house stalls for many who had been operating at the roadside.

She said people must know that building roadside stalls was illegal.
