Roy Krishna has dedicated his Hero of the League (Golden Ball) award to all his fans around the world.

Roy got the award for scoring 14 goals and eight assists in this year’s Indian Super League.

This is despite his club ATK Mohun Bagan suffered a 2-1 loss to Mumbai City in the ISL final at Goa’s Madgaon on Saturday.

The 33-year-old Fijian international received $14,000 and a brand new motorcycle valued at $35,000.

Roy admitted that the 2021 ISL season was tougher compared to last season.

“I’m very disappointed that we didn’t come away with a win. We gave our best on the field but it wasn’t our day,” he told SUNsports.

“To have won the Hero of the Season award and walk away with the golden ball is very special to me. I’ve worked really hard throughout the season. I dedicate this award to all my fans in Fiji and abroad who have given so much love and respect.”

Roy added that the multiple quarantines they had to face when moving to a new city to play football had been a challenging journey.

“We had to live in a bubble and we’re restricted to a small section of the resort we are staying in,” he said.

“We have no public engagement and our movement was limited to just the hotel, the training grounds, and the stadium. Not being able to freely move around and being confined to a small space has been challenging.

“However, I’ve been meditating and doing yoga to deal with the stress. I’m so glad that as a team we made it to the finals,” he said.

The Siberia, Labasa native said he was heading back to Fiji for a break at the end of the month.
