Professional pastry chef, Josese Cagica, was forced to remain in Fiji when COVID-19 prompted the close of international borders.

He worked in the tourism industry in the Cook Islands for two years before deciding to return to Fiji for a holiday.

“When I could not return to work in the Cooks, I had to quickly think about earning a living here in Suva,” the Vanuabalavu gentleman said.

Mr Cagica, popularly known as Jay, launched his online food business, The Cake Hub by Jay.

“While this is my first experience at the Garden City Market Day, I normally cater to orders I from abroad.”

“I received orders from the United Kingdom, South Africa, United States of America and Australia to bake cakes and pastries.”

“By that I mean, I receive their orders to bake for their loved ones here in Fiji.”

What Is Your Favourite Backyard Spot?
I enjoy discovering new places.

The beach is my favourite zen.

I like the beach near Maui Bay, along the Coral Coast.

What Is Your Favourite Place For A Coffee Or Pie?
Mana Coffee, formerly Weta.

What Is The One Place On Your Bucket List, And Why?
Yasawa.

There is so much mystery, folklore, and unexplainable sites to be explored.

It’s untouched nature is awesome.

Yasawa has so much to offer to locals and tourists.

The myths and legends make the destination all the more alluring.

That’s one island group with rich history behind its unique sites.

I’m interested in visiting for the sake of enriching my knowledge of its history.
