Members of the Fiji Muslim League, Lautoka branch Jaime Masjid, marked the two-year anniversary of the deaths that took place as a result mass shootings in Christchurch, New Zealand. The anniversary was marked on Sunday.

Imam Hafiz Musa Patel, Ashraf Ali Razat and Ashraf Ali were among the 51 people who lost their lives in a mass shooting on March 15, 2019, where an armed gunman opened fire on Muslims attending prayers in Christchurch

Fiji Muslim League President Hafizud Dean Khan said the occasion was also to mark the Meeraj-Un-Nabi.

Meeraj Nabi is a very auspicious occasion for Muslims all over the world because it signifies importance that the Almighty Allah bestowed on our Prophets,” he said

“On this occasion, of course, we also are here to mark the anniversary of the deaths of Hafiz Musa Patel, and our two other brothers. Brother Razat and Ashraf.”

He said Imam Hafiz Musa Patel served at the Jaime Mosque for 27 years.

The Deputy New Zealand High Commissioner Michelle Podmore said the tragic event had influenced authorities to relook New Zealand’s gun laws.
