PM Bainimarama: Proposed Bill In Its Current Form Will Not Go To Parliament
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Prime Minister Voreqe Baini­marama will be meeting with sen­ior Police officers to­day to discuss the proposed Police Bill.

Mr Bainimarama has noted the concerns from the general public on the proposed Bill. He will be making his views known on the matter today.

Certain sections of the proposed Police Bill has received widespread criticism.

Mr Bainimarama confirmed that the proposed Bill in its current form will not go to Parliament.

Sections which have received criticisms include:

  • Confiscating electronic items including mobile phones without warrants,
  • Taking a hold of property for their use.
