Work has commenced for sites that Alice Queen secured for mineral exploration in the country.

Viti Mining executive chair and Alice Queen corporate affairs spokesman, John Sanday, said: “We have already started exploration.

“Such work entails mainly literature reviews where we look deeper into the work previous exploration companies have done, and building from that base with new and more modern technology and scientific developments in the mineralogy field.”

“Knowledge and information is always being churned out from research and filed experience.”

“Also the use of geophysics and some satellite-based exploration technology.”

Compliance And Standards
Mr Sanday said keeping up with the Department of Mineral Resources’ strict compliance and standards, was a full time job in itself.

“But that is a good thing and should give us citizens the comfort that the regulator is carrying out the legal responsibilities,” he said.

Viti Mining secured the prospecting licences for Viani in Vanua Levu, and Nabila, near Nadi, which hosts the Faddy’s prospect and the historic Mistry Mine.

“For me personally, this is a reconnection of the circle, as the original prospector who discovered Faddy’s Prospect was Hubert Faddy – my granduncle,” Mr Sanday said.

“I hope I can honor his legacy by my contribution.”

Alice Queen is an Australian listed company that signed a binding, conditional share sale agreement for the acquisition of Viti Mining in Fiji last week.

The mineral exploration work will span three years, and with an overall investment pegged at $1 million, is subject to annual review by the Mineral Resources Department.

The Mineral Resource Department said the two prospecting licences were for gold.

Mr Sanday said the most important and daunting of challenges was in satisfying and complying with the rigorous standards required by the Mineral Resources Department.

“They are not for faint hearted.”

The Department of Environment also played a hawkish and strict role in the business, he said.

“We must also keep in close consultation with iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB), provincial offices, Turaga ni Koros and most importantly, the landowning mataqalis,” Mr Sanday said.

The mineral exploration phase involves specialised skills that include, geology, geophysics, and field assistants during the field work phase, he said.

“There is also the preparation of the data and information for reporting to the Stock Exchange, plus the specialised finance skill sets for capital raisings and private placements in the investment field,” Mr Sanday said.

Alice Queen’s portfolio of projects in Australia include:
– Northern Molong Projects (NSW)
–  Yarindury (AQX 90 per cent)
–  Mendooran (AQX 90 per cent)
–  Torres Strait Projects (QLD)
–  Horn Island and & Kaiwalagal (AQX 84.5 per cent).
