Rusiate Nasove is among local forwards who could make the Fiji team to the Tokyo Olympics, says Jasa Veremalua.

Rio Olympian and former Fijian 7s forward Jasa Veremalua rated the Police Blue rugger as the most consistent forward in the Fijian sevens competition.

Playing Major League Rugby (MLR) as flanker for the San Diego Legions in the United States of America, he said Nasove has the skills, vision, speed, power and is destined to become a star in the world of sevens.

But he must not lose form and be consistent in his performance with the Super 7s Series third leg beginning at Ratu Ganilau Park, Savusavu today.

Speaking to SUNsports, the Korotogo, Nadroga native said Nasove is one of the standouts in the local 7s competition.

“I highly rate Nasove because his fast, hard running and very illusive,” Veremalua said.

“I believe Baber will pick him because his defence and attack is good. With his current form, he gets my tick.

“As of now Nasove should be one of the local players that could complete for the 13-member team to the Tokyo Olympics in July.

“His endurance is good, very fit player and has proven himself in the local competition.”

Veremalua added that during his short stint with Nadroga before heading back to the USA, Nasove has been making waves in the local competition.

“He’s one of the standout backrow players in the Skipper Cup Premiership games that I have played alongside,” he said.

“The talent he shows is not far away from what you want to see from a 7s forward.

“I remember during the Nadroga-Naitasiri game he chased Kaliova Mocetadra and produced a try saving tackle.

“Even our fullback was late too react when Nasove made the effort to close down the winger.

“The most important thing is he is incredibly fit and he has a great work ethic.

“I remember training with him and he was very fast and fit in completing the endurance drill.

“He’s gifted physically and his ability to be strong and powerful in his upper body.”

“I have played alongside him and people have seen him during the Skipper Cup competition and the Super 7s Series.”

“He is the fittest player and one of very consistent forward.

“Now with all the kick-off dilemma will be over if we have the likes of Nasove pairing up with Semi Kunatani upfront.”

Perfect pair

Meanwhile, Veremalua has also picked Nasove to be the perfect pair with Semi Kunatani.

“Imagine at the Olympic Games we have one of the world 7s best forward Kunatani pairing up with Nasove in the forwards” he said.

“Nasove will be a perfect fit and we all know how Semi plays his rugby. It will be a good combination.

“Aerial balls and kickoffs will be a thing of the past, when you have these two players playing together.”

The Police Blue side are in Pool A with Cakaudrove Selection, Ratu Filise and Wardens.
