The late Fijian tourism icon Dixon Seeto was honoured yesterday.

The Dixon Seeto Memorial award was presented by the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama to Jenny Seeto during the 23rd Annual ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards (ANZ FETA)

The 2019 Awards Presentation was held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa Denarau, Nadi.

The late Mr Seeto’s widow, thanked the PM, the FETA trustees and organising committee of the ANZ FETA for honouring Dixon with the special Dixon Seeto Memorial award.

“My son, Gareth and I and Dixon’s family are immensely appreciative of your tribute to Dixon.

“We are really appreciative for all the support and encouragement given by the industry and the many industry stalwarts for whom he had great respect and administration.

“Without you all, Dixon would not have had this love affair with the industry.

“I sometimes wondered whether I was the priority.

“Thank goodness, I had my own career which he fully supported.

“You helped to develop his passion with everything to do with tourism, whether in the sky or sea or on land, from his early days with Fiji Airways, Blue Lagoon, Tapa Tours, hotels, air industry regulator, tourism frameworks and legislation.”

Mrs Seeto highlighted that “he is with us in spirit every day as we go through this very challenging period in the industry with the impact of COVID-19”.

“What I learnt from the many kind words and tributes following his passing, was that he truly embodied the bula spirit wherever he went and in whatever he did, he say that it was the Fijian Spirit in our hearts that we should be thankful for especially in difficult times.

“Dixon was always forward looking and solutions orientated and he never sat still.

“He would have had no doubt that with the many cycles tourism has gone through over the years and with our resilience, strengths and industry co-operation, Fiji will bounce back!”

She reminisced that Mr Seeto was a simple person and he would have been very humbled to receive this award.
