Navua Man Re-Charged With Abduction, Wrongful Confinement, Rape And Sexual Assault

A Navua businessman, whose rape and abduction case was discontinued by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) last year, has been charged again.

The 43-year-old accused appeared on Thursday before Justice Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Suva, represented by lawyer John Rabuku from Law Solutions.

The accused is recharged with abduction, wrongful confinement, rape and sexual assault.

The alleged incidents took place on July 21, 2018, at Navua when the complainant was 12 years old.

In this case, the DPP had filed a nolle prosequi to discontinue the matter in September last year because the complainant and her mother could not be located.

However, State prosecutor from the DPP’s Office, Pream Ram, told the court that the complainant and the mother were now in contact with the prosecution and ready to give evidence in court.

In the second case called yesterday, the accused is charged with one count each of assault causing actual bodily harm, criminal intimidation, indecent assault, abducting with intent to confine person, wrongful confinement, aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary.

The complainants in the matter are the accused’s 30-year-old defacto partner and her five-year-old son.

The matter has been adjourned for bail hearing on April 1.

The accused was remanded.
