The Director of Public Prosecutions, Mr Christopher Pryde, (DPP) has decided that no charges will be laid against the Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimarama, in relation to a complaint lodged by Sitiveni Rabuka regarding comments the Prime Minister allegedly made at a function on 2 November 2020 which the complainant claimed were seditious.

The police file was sent to the DPP for an assessment of the evidence and a decision on whether any charges should be laid following the complaint.

The DPP stated that “following a review of the police docket and the evidence, it is our opinion that there is insufficient evidence to support criminal charges against the Prime Minister and, therefore, the docket has been returned to police with the instruction not to charge and no further action is required.”
