It was a scrappy win for defending Digicel Premier League champions Suva as they beat Navua 1-0 at the ANZ Stadium, Suva, yesterday.

The young Navua side played with a lot of flair but poor finishing was their downfall.

They had a goal by veteran Apisai Smith disallowed in the 65th minute by referee Aron Reddy for offside.

Speaking to SUNsports Suva coach Babz Khan said, his players need to concentrate on their game.

“We’ll head back to camp and analyse our game because we knew we missed a lot of goals,” the no-nonsense coach said.

“We dominated the second half but took only one shot at goal. They need to concentrate on the game.”

Khan said their next game against Nadi is going to be tough.

“We cannot afford to miss those goal scoring opportunities against Nadi especially when playing at Prince Charles Park.

“We need to bring our A game so we’ll work on our finishing.”

Despite the loss, Navua coach Amit Prakash was happy with the team’s performance.

“The players played well but unfortunately we had to play catch-up football. We are a young side but we’ll get better as the competition continues.”

What happened: Both teams started strongly and missed goal scoring opportunities early in the game.

Suva took the lead in the 26th minute when nippy midfielder Shahil Dave blasted the ball to the back of the net.

Halftime: Suva 1-0 Navua

Navua came out firing at the Suva goal mouth but their defence led by Remueru Tekiata stood tall.

Suva goalkeeper Atunaisa Naucukidi was kept busy by the Navua strikers.
