Despite COVID-19 business must go on regardless.

This rings true for the newly established Kacau Freight Services Pte Limited.

KFS Pte Limited is a sea freight forwarding company in partnership with Southpac Freight Services Limited in the United Kingdom (UK) based in Lami, Suva.

The past 12 months the sea freight company has sent more than 1000 personal for regular servicemen and ex–service men and women including civilians in the United Kingdom.

Company director James Pickering, said apart from engaging with two top local shipping agents they have also established business with Southpac Australia and Southpac Canada.

“We have also started the setup mode with the United States (US) and New Zealand,” Mr Pickering said.

“We intend to make things easy for Fijians living in overseas who want to send personal effects to their loved ones at cheaper and affordable rates,” he said.

“This is a freight network involving a few of us former British Armed Forces personnel in UK, Australia, Canada and the US to assist Fijian families during this pandemic and also helping them stay connected.

“We have more than 1000 customers and more than 1000 followers on our Facebook page.”

Neptune Shipping, Swire Shipping and Maersk through their shipping agents bring in KFL containers.

Container ships that have been bringing their containers include Southern Moana and Captain Tasman to name a few.

“We offer door-to-door delivery to customers who do not want to go through the hassle to having to come all the way to the Shipping Services warehouse in Lami to collect their consignments.

“We act as an intermediary between the company who makes the shipment and the destination for the goods.

“We hope to also offer different transport modes such as sea/ocean freight, road transport and air freight shipment soon.”

Mr Pickering said once this inward service rolls; they would focus on outward freight services later this year.

KFS Pte Limited currently employs four staff.

Their services include:

• Warehousing
• Preparation of Shipping & Import/Export Documents,
• Cargo Insurance/Filling Insurance Claims,
• Consolidation of Freight,
• Booking Cargo Space
• Inland Transportation Tracking

Mr Pickering hails from Nukuloa village, Gau in Lomaiviti.

The kacau is a seafaring Fiji petrel (brid) only found on Gau.
