The Fijian Navy 7s team last participated in the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s in 2012.

And they are back at the 45th tournament hoping to win the tournament like they did 31 years ago.

Fresh’et Navy won the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s in 1990.

And the lone survivor from that team, Josefa Radrole will guide the young men on Friday.

“We started our sevens team training just two weeks ago,” he said.

“I am the only one here who is still in the Navy since 1990, the last time we won the Marist 7s tournament.

“From 1990 it’s different from what we have today, sevens is played faster compared to before.

“We last participated in 2012, after that we concentrated on  15s rugby.

“We are lucky to be back participating in the Marist 7s.

Naval personnels in the national squad include Jone Manu and Meli Derenalagi. However, the duo will play for Army and the Fiji 7s team respectively.

Radrole indicated they hope to be a regular participant in the Marist 7s in future.

Radrole acknowledged the assistance of major sponsor Fresh’et International Limited for its continuous support.

Navy is in Pool J with Police Blue, Kavala Bay Babas and Hehevia Blues.
