The Accident Compensation Commission of Fiji (ACCF) recently made two payments in Suva to a victim and compensation beneficiary under the employment accidents category.

The first was made to an injured worker, Vijay Kumar, who was assaulted at his workplace by a co-worker.

Mr Kumar suffered trauma from injuries on the left side of his brain, leaving a scar and affected his movement.

He is unfit to work and was the sole breadwinner of his family.

The commission promptly processed his application and compensated him as per the Accident Compensation Act 2017 and Regulations.

Mr Kumar will use the money to further his treatment and look after his family.

The second recipient was the wife of a deceased sailor, who succumbed to injuries, after he was struck by a steel wire while onboard a tugboat.

His wife thanked the commission and said she would invest half of the compensation and use the other half to fulfil her husband’s wish to extend his family home.

The commission has so far paid out $3,076,500.00 for employment accidents.
